Obituary of David VanDerVliet
David Edwin VanDerVliet, age 84, of Elliston, VA, was called to his eternal rest on Friday, February 27, 2015. Born February 15, 1931 in Paterson, NJ the son of the late David and the late Anna (Boehme) VanDerVliet, he served as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War. Mr. VanDerVliet was an engineering technician for Singer Kearfott. He resided in Oakland, Lake Stockholm and Montville before retiring to Virginia, where he raised quarter horses and was an active member of the Gideons.
Mr. VanDerVliet is survived by beloved his children, Scott and Vivian VanDerVliet, Kim and Donald King, of Newton, and Dann and Susan VanDerVliet, of Vermont; 13 cherished grandchildren; and his loving sisters, Lorraine Englishman, of Allendale, and Lilian Koch and her husband Raymond of Montague. His daughter, Laurie Gonder, predeceased him on March 11, 2001, as did a grandson, Joshua King, on June 28, 1993.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home with a service at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Pastor Doug Thuen.
A graveside interment will follow at Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa.
