James Henry

Obituary of James Edward Henry

James E. Henry, Jr., 76, of Wayne, died Thursday night, September 15, 2011. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he completed his BA degree at Brooklyn College following his stint in the USAF. Following his July 8th, 1961 marriage to Betty J. Greener, James moved to New Jersey and commenced a sales career with a number of companies. In 1964, he moved his growing family to Long Island and soon turned in his sample bag for a marketing position with the Union Camp Corporation. He enjoyed several challenging assignments with UCC, ending his career in the Human Resources Department where he served as Manager of Benefits Planning and Systems section. It was during this last phase that the empty nesters moved to Wayne in May of 1991, trading in a close to two hour commute for a five minute ride. James and Betty shared a fifty-odd-year avocation in community theatre, with Jim favoring set design, stage management and directing, both straight shows and musicals. In time, however, their job responsibilities forced them to relinquish their long-term hobby. And once they moved to Wayne, they became happily involved in volunteer positions in the community. Having survived three cancer surgeries, James found his fourth case, its attending drug trial program, and his struggle with emphysema more than he could endure. He is survived by his wife and three children, James E. Henry. III, Claire Greaves Moore and Sean Hunter Henry, as well as his six grandchildren: Ryan and Patrick Henry, Matthew and Michele Moore and Caroline and Leigh Henry. James is also survived by his three sisters: Marie Jaskiewicz, Catherine Howe, and Maureen Lillis. A memorial Mass will be conducted at St. Mary's Church in Pompton Lakes at 11 AM on Friday, Sept. 23rd. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations either to: Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Lenox Hill Station, P.O. Box 599, New York, NY 10021-0004 www.mskcc.org or Miracle House, 80 8th Ave., NY, NY 10011 www.miraclehouse.org
