Obituary of Mildred Giardina
Mildred G. (Klopp) Giardina, age 83, in Pompton Plains, formerly of Wayne, on Monday, August 8, 2011. She was born December 29, 1927 in Reading, PA the daughter of the late Raymond and the late Cecelia (Ledzinsky) Klopp.
Mildred moved to Paterson NJ in 1943 and graduated St. Mary's High School in 1945. She married Bill Rhode on May 31, 1947 and after a few years they moved to Wayne where they raised their 5 children, living there for over 40 years.
Mildred was a secretary for the Wayne Board of Education for 19 years, most of that time, working at Wayne Hills High School. After retiring, she briefly did some modeling where she was featured in two TV, and multiple print ads.
She married the late Charles Giardina in November 1998. They shared homes in Manchester, NJ and Boca Raton, FL.
Mildred was a parishioner of Our Lady of Consolation R.C. Church, a member of The Rosary Society, The Amity Club, and The Wayne Retirees.
She has resided at Cedar Crest Village in Pompton Plains since 2005. She loved traveling, gardening, crocheting, needlepoint and reading.
Beloved mother of Avon Taylor; Doris and her husband Joe Whitney; William Rhode III, Bert Rhode and Bruce and his wife Diane Rhode.
Loving grandmother of Shannon, Sean and Kayla Whitney; Carol and Paula Rhode; Michael Kerwin; Albert and Darlene Rhode and Hunter Rhode; and great-grandmother of Gabe Rhode
The funeral Mass will be on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Consolation R.C. Church, 1799 Hamburg Tpke, Wayne and will be celebrated by Fr. Edward Lambro.
Visiting on Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
Interment will be in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
