Obituary of David C. French

David C. French, 92, died peacefully in his home in Williamsburg, VA on Monday, June 13th surrounded by his family. Born in Paisley, Scotland to James H. and Florence A. (Campbell) French on May 21, 1919, he came to America at the age of 5 years old. Mr. French was a lifelong resident of New Jersey, moving to Virginia in his later years. Graduating from New Jersey Technical Institute, he received a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Army Air Corp. Mr. French worked for the Bendix Corporation/ Allied Signal for 45 years rising to the level of Director of Operations in both Teterboro, NJ and in Newport News, VA. During his career, he worked on many aspects of the US Space Program leading up to the landing on the moon. A longtime member of the Wayne Presbyterian Church, he served as an elder, a treasurer, and in several other capacities. Mr. French was also a member of the Euclid Masonic Lodge in Hackensack. In his retirement, he loved traveling and spending time with his family. Mr. French is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Adalyne (Theile) French; loving children, Judith and her husband Paul Yates of Williamsburg, David J. and his wife Phyllis French of Olathe, Kansas; his dear grandchildren Timothy and his wife Cailin Yates; Kristen Yates, Stephanie French and Jennifer French and his dearest sister, Margaret Hathaway of Metuchen, NJ. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Kathleen, Shawn, Rem, Margaret, Elizabeth, and Jack Yates and Evelyn French. He was preceded in death by his brother, Henry J. French. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 16th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Wayne Presbyterian Church, 1200 Alps Rd, Wayne on June 17th at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Brassard celebrating his life. Interment will be at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover.
