It was June 6, 1999. Deacon Philip was most gracious and welcoming at the wedding of Joan and Ron Wilenta. Joan and Ron had insisted that I vest for their marriage. The night before Deacon Phil, in a very polite but insistent question, asked "You are going to vest, aren't you?" Did I really have a choice?
I formed my image of Deacon Phil through Joan and Ron. The image was perfect.
Phil, pray for us. Thank you for the brief moments of your presence.

Well Papa,
You're in a better place now and I know you're happy which makes me a little happier but I will miss you more than anything. You are a great man and I couldn't ask for a better grandfather. I will look after Nana for you even though I know you'll be watching her anyway. I love you!
Love,
Your first grandchild

Uncle Phil, you will be missed by so many! You always were so kind to me and taught me so much! I love you and will never forget you. You were the definition of a true gentleman. On a lighter note I get a chuckle thinking about you back in the day with a "A cold Schaeffer tall boy"
Love your niece,
Julianne
