Obituary of Farahdokht Varzi

Farahdokht Varzi, age 89, died Thursday, September 12, 2013. Mrs. Varzi was born June 11, 1924 in Mashad, Iran, the daughter of the late Shahzadeh and the late Nayer (Roknedoleh) Rokni. She lived in Tehran and then in Wayne for 18 years. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Iran and rose to the rank of director of one of the Iranian State Ministries. Mrs. Varzi's first marriage to Abbas Yamani ended after 14 years. She was married for over 36 years to her second husband Abol Hassan Varzi, one of the most famous poets, who died in 1994. She raised 3 children and was also a member of the Iranian Writers (Pen) Association. Mrs. Varzi was a pioneer in the struggle for women's rights in Iran and she was among the first female drivers in the country. Mrs. Varzi was the beloved mother of Mehdi and his wife Soraya Varzi, Farrinaz and her husband William Cress, and Hamid and his wife Mina Varzi; and devoted grandmother of Shahriar and Keyvan Pourreza, Kamyar, Kamrooz and Azadeh Varzi and Cyrus and Anahita Varzi.
