Obituary of Valentin F. Turchin
Valentin F. Turchin, age 79, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at the Atrium at Wayne. Mr. Turchin was born February 14, 1931 in Russia, the son of the late Fedor and the late Lyubov (Bagler) Turchin. He moved to Oakland in 1985 and was formerly of Forrest Hills, Queens, NY. Mr. Turchin founded the Moscow chapter of International Amnesty in 1973. He also helped with the Helsinki Watch Group, a human rights group in the Soviet Union before coming to New York in 1977. He joined the faculty of the City University of New York in 1979. In 1999 he retired from City College where he was a Professor of Computer Science. Mr. Turchin wrote a book called "Inertia of Fear" that was published in 1981.
Mr. Turchin survived by his beloved wife Tatiana (Novikov); his loving sons, Dimitri and Peter; 5 cherished grandchildren; and dear siblings, Ellen and Constantine.
The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 pm at the Russian Orthodox Convent Chapel, 100 Smith Road, Nanuet, NY. Interment will be in Russian Orthodox Convent Cemetery in Nanuet.
