Obituary of Andrew Kostic
Deacon Andrew Kostic, age 82, passed into life eternal on Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Mr. Kostic grew up in Wallington before moving to Wayne in 1952. He was ordained as a Deacon in the Diocese of Paterson on May 10, 1995. He was a parishioner of the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a member of the Knights of Columbus. His primary ministry as a Deacon was visiting with and bringing Communion to the sick in hospitals and homebound. He worked extensively with CCD children, training altar servers, and with adults in the RCIA program. Mr. Kostic was the president of AVK Associates, Wayne, providing independent transportation and logistics consulting to local companies. He was also a member of North Jersey Traffic Club and served on Wayne Township Industrial Commission and Environmental Commission in the late 60s. Mr. Kostic was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and served on USS Greene APD36, under the command or Willard Roosevelt, Grandson of Teddy Roosevelt and on the USS Midway as a Quartermaster. He was an active member of the USS Greene Alumni and 4-Stack Destroyer Association and enjoyed attending reunions with the Greene crew. He was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving on the USS Quapaw and a life member of the VFW Post #1931, Wayne. He was a member of the Wallington Panthers Boys Club, the Doremus Post and Drum and Bugle Corps and the Holy Name/Garfield Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. Kostic was the beloved husband of 61 years of Virginia P. (Cimera); loving father of two sons: Andrew R. Kostic, Jr. and his wife Liza and their children Sigourney and Julien and Jeffry Kostic and his wife Rim and granddaughters Hannah and Erin; dear brother of Steven Costic; and loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing hours on Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 4-7:15 pm at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary R.C. Church, Wayne. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7:30 pm. A prayer service will be held Friday, November 6, at 10:00 am also at the church, with interment to follow at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes.
