Obituary of Edward L. Shiko

Edward L. Shiko, age 83, of Wayne passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2013. Born in Clifton, he was a long time Wayne resident. Ed was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps who served his country proudly during the Korean War. During his life he owned and operated Vogue Cleaners in Garfield. After leaving the dry cleaning business, he stayed active by working for Coldwell Banker Real Estate agency in Wayne for the last ten years as an Assistant Associate. Ed was a former member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pompton Lakes. Recognizing a need for local seniors to have a place to get together, Ed co-founded the Wayne Adult Community Center along with his friend Anton Oswald. This effort created a network of over 300 senior members coming together to learn, socialize and gather with their peers. He went on to be recognized as the Wayne Senior Citizen of the Year in 2000 for his long time senior citizen advocacy efforts. Mr. Shiko was predeceased by his beloved wife Donna Marie (Jones) in 2000 and a brother Leonard. He is survived by his step-son James Bufardeci and step-daughter Cheryl Ann Carroll; his brother Thomas and his wife Janie; two cousins; many nieces and nephews; and his extended circle of senior friends and neighbors. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 3-7 p.m. The funeral will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home and will be celebrated by Rev. Mark Rossman. Interment will follow in Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa.
