Obituary of Joseph Charles Abbate

Joseph Charles Abbate, age 83, died Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Chilton Medical Center, Pequannock Twsp. Mr. Abbate was born August 3, 1934 at Beth Israel Hospital in Passaic, NJ the son of the late Ignazio and the late Elizabeth (Barra) Abbate. He lived in Wayne for the past 53 years and in Lodi before that. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy during the Korean War. Before his retirement, Joseph was the President of the Teamsters Union Local #945 in Wayne, NJ. Mr. Abbate was a parishioner of Our Lady of Consolation R.C. Church. Joseph was an avid singer and painter who also had his pilot's license and enjoyed flying. He loved spending time with his family in Ortley Beach at the Jersey Shore and also the Scottsdale area of Arizona where they traveled frequently.

He is survived by his beloved wife: Ruth (Plant), his loving children: Joseph M., Mia Puglisi, Cheryl Liccardi and Nicole Paladino, his dear sister: Marie Minimi, and cherished grandchildren, Alexa, Nicholas, Salvatore, Angela, Marina, Lira and Ava.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Janice (d.2007).

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, March 6, 2018 from 4-8 PM.

The funeral Mass will be Thursday at 12:00 pm at Our Lady of Consolation R.C. Church, 1799 Hamburg Tpke., Wayne and will be celebrated by Fr. Michael D. Lombardo.

Entombment will follow at Calvary Mausoleum, Paterson.
