Obituary of Rose A. Duffy

Rose A. (Beattie) Duffy, age 91, of Wayne passed away peacefully on October 14, 2016, surrounded by her children and loving caregivers of Sunrise of Wayne. Mrs. Duffy was born March 21, 1925 in Paterson, the daughter of the late Francis and the late Rachael (Lammey) Beattie. She attended St. John School, where she started her secretarial career as class secretary and before graduation, as an assistant to Fr. Joseph Brestel. She became the executive secretary to the president of the Paterson Paper Company, and later a unit clerk at Wayne General Hospital for many years. Rose was a teacher's assistant at Lafayette School and after retirement, volunteered at Christian Healthcare Center Adult Daycare, where she was awarded for her many hours of service. She was an avid reader, and often finished a novel in a day. Mrs. Duffy was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Valley, Wayne. Rose was well known for her sense of humor and ability to make a short story long. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered. Mrs. Duffy was the beloved wife of the late Joseph E Duffy; loving Mom to Dr. Joseph M. Duffy and his wife Joanne and Patricia Vichiconti and her husband Paul; caring grandma to Ryan, Alison and Kevin Duffy and Paul and Rose Vichiconti. She was predeceased by her sister Frances "Mickey" Sharkey. Visiting hours will be Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends are welcome to attend the funeral Mass on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary R.C. Church, 45 Urban Club Rd., Wayne. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa. In lieu of flowers, kindly donate to the caring Passaic Valley Visiting Home Care Hospice, 783 Riverview Dr., PO Box 1007, Totowa, NJ 07511-1007
