Marcia Collins

Obituary of Marcia Ann Collins

Marcia Ann (Whitmore) Collins, age 83, passed away on June 30, 2015. Marcia was born on January 3, 1932 in Paterson, NJ the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Whitmore. She lived in Wayne since 1964 and was a member of Our Lady of the Valley R.C. Church. Marcia graduated from Mount St. Vincent's college in 1953 with a BS in Nursing. She worked at Chilton Hospital where she retired in 1997. In the 25 years she spent at Chilton, Marcia found true joy in helping to bring so many children into this world – especially when she had a personal connection with the new mom. Often time's friends would tell her how wonderful it was to have her in the room with them as she had such a warm and calm presence.

While raising 8 children, Marcia still found time to be a class mother, Girl Scout leader and cheer leading coach, and she would be the first to volunteer to car pool the kids to games and practices or to make something for the bake sale fundraisers or end of season parties. However, her true pride and joy were her 11 grandchildren. "Grammy" would relish the time that she could spend with her grandkids – reading a story; teaching them to make her famous Friday night pizza; going on fun outings, cheering them on at their sporting events or giving knitting lessons.

In her retirement years, Marcia loved to volunteer her time as a Eucharistic Minister for OLV Church; shopping for homebound senior citizens; and making her delicious meatballs for the homeless at Eva's Village. She was also the friend that would always be there when someone was in need – never hesitating to offering a helping hand.

Marcia is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Barry; her loving children: Barry and his wife Jeanmarie; Tim; Dan and his wife Jen; Kathy; Ellen and her husband Michael Seebeck; Marybeth; Michael; Shelagh and her husband Bob Reilly; as well as her cherished grandchildren: Sean and Kevin Collins; Vic and Collin Seebeck; Griffin, Heather, Liam and Shannon Reilly; Paige and Madison Collins; and Kaitlyn Collins.
