Obituary of Joseph Bernstein

Dr. Joseph Bernstein had a keen inquiring mind and an original sense of humor. He pursued the sciences, especially chemistry, and all sorts of travel and humanities. Born in New York City on October 2, 1925, he grew up in northern New Jersey and graduated from Paterson East Side High School. He was an infantry medic in WWII. After serving, he completed his pharmacy degree at Rutgers University. He owned and operated Joseph's Pharmacy in Bogota, NJ, following in his father's footsteps as a retail pharmacist. In mid-career he became a chemistry teacher at Fairleigh Dickinson University while simultaneously completing his PhD in Chemistry at Rutgers University. He rose to the position of full professor and chemistry department chairman. After retirement, he and his wife Gloria continued to travel extensively and take passionate interest in their family's activities and progress. Dr. Joseph Bernstein of Wayne died peacefully at home on April 5, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Stanton Bernstein, and sister, Ann Barenberg.
