Obituary of Gloria L. Tenten

Gloria Louise Tenten, age 86, of Wayne, formerly of Franklin Lakes, NJ, daughter of Charles and Theresa Biggi Tenten, passed into Eternal Rest on December 25, 2014. Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, Gloria graduated from St. Paul of the Cross Grammar School and from St. Dominic Academy after which she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Dominic. Known as Sr. Mary Louise, O.P., during her twenty year affiliation, she taught in parochial elementary and secondary schools throughout New Jersey. She received her B.A. degree in Education, French and English from Caldwell College in Caldwell, NJ and she earned her M.A. in French from Assumption College in Worcester, MA. Sr. Mary Louise served as an Instructor in French at Caldwell College and she taught French and English as a staff member for St. Mary High School in Rutherford, NJ. Gloria's professional career ensued through her twenty-seven year association with the Board of Education in Paterson, NJ. Having achieved State Certification as a Teacher of Spanish, she was employed in the World Languages Departments in J.F. Kennedy High School and in Rosa Parks School of Fine And Performing Arts. Gloria organized, directed and supervised Student Study Tours to both Europe and Canada. In 1998 she was the recipient of the Governor's "Teacher of the Year" Award. After Retirement from public education, for three years Gloria was named Adjunct Professor in the Language Department as well as Tutor in the Academic Support Center of William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ. Gloria is survived by her brother, Robert, and by her sister-in-law, Beverly, of Fanwood, NJ: by her niece, Michele, and her family of Murray Hill, NJ; by her nephew, Michael, and his family of Gillette, NJ; by her nephew, Mark, of Fanwood, NJ; by her cousin, Carole Smith, and her family of Accra, NY; and by her cousin, Robert Biggi, and his family of Mechanicsburg, PA. Gloria was surrounded by her extended families: the Hannans of Wayne, NJ; the Clintons of Forked River, NJ; and the Dixons of Canada. Many dear friends and dedicated colleagues have remained an integral part of Gloria's life. As a member of the Assemblies of God Churches, for several years, she was profoundly blessed by God, by the Pastors and by the Christian Communities. In accordance with Gloria's expressed wishes, no viewing will be scheduled. Funeral and burial will be privately directed under the care of Moore's Home For Funerals of Wayne, NJ. Should someone care to memorialize Gloria, he/ she may do so through a personal offering to the charitable organization of his/her choice.
