DIRECTORS

The funeral directors at Moore’s Home for Funerals are licensed by the State of New Jersey as Practitioners of Mortuary Science. To attain a practitioner’s license in New Jersey, the candidate must complete a series of requirements. The requirements include; a high school diploma, at least two years of undergraduate college courses, completion of a certified Mortuary College program, passing a National Board Licensing exam, passing a NJ Mortuary Law Exam, serving a 1 or 2 year apprenticeship with an existing licensee and finally passing a NJ Mortuary Board supervised practical examination for embalming. Once these requirements have been met, the candidate may become a Licensed Practitioner of Mortuary Science.

To maintain their license, all funeral directors in the State of New Jersey must accumulate 10 hours of continuing education credits every two years under the ongoing supervision of the NJ State Board of Mortuary Science. In addition to these required credits, some directors maintain a voluntary Certified Funeral Service Professional designation (CFSP) from the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice. This designates their ongoing commitment to voluntary professional education in their field and to community service.
